“It’s not quite like jail… but not quite like summer camp either. Maybe somewhere in between, like rehab? There is a weekly art class with really cool projects.”
This is how my doctor describes my upcoming hospital sentencing. Aside from monitoring me 2x a day in the beginning, I will have the whole day to do whatever I want. Work. Make macaroni art (I had a vision of becoming a modern macaroni artist but it is not quite going to plan). Watch every episode of Game of Thrones since I haven’t seen any of it. Crochet. Walk the hospital grounds. Visit the coffee cart.
My hospital sentencing is currently slated for July 15th, which means I have a little over three weeks of freedom. Many things in my life happen in two-week increments, so this means I now have only one more sprint planning in person, two more guitar lessons, and only one more doctor appointment!
Crossing under the four-week mark made this suddenly start to feel very real. My thoughts have shifted from “will we make it that far?” to “omg, I only have ~3 weeks left of life as I know it.” It is strange to think about how we only have ~3 weeks left of life with just Erin, Sam, me, and the dogs. Normally we would have four more months (I am only 21 weeks afterall). I am trying to savor this time, but also knock out some “bucket list” items that I know will be harder once we have twins. Things like:
- Celebrate Sam’s 3rd birthday! (next weekend)
- Hang out with Erin
- Hang out with friends
- Go out to eat as much as possible!
- Go kayaking
- Take long(ish) drives and stop at the mountains
- Close on our new land in Chelan
- Go camping on our new land
- Float around in Lake Chelan
- Maybe try to get more things done around the house like install our new blinds (this really is at the bottom of the list. I did paint the baby room, though!)
Another thing on my mind: it probably is time to buy a mini van. It really is the only option, considering the size of our 2- and 4-legged gaggle.
P.S. The babies are doing fine so far! My doctor seems to think that this may be a long and uneventful 10 weeks in the hospital. We are still keeping our fingers crossed anyway.
